The City of Stockholm has been awarded the 2015 INTERMODES prize for its work on integrating all transport modes for the well-being of its citizens and tourists.
Gilles Vesco, Vice-President of Grand Lyon Metropole in charge of new mobility, representing the INTERMODES 2014 laureate, presented the prize to Fariba Daryani, Project Manager of Stockholm’s Traffic Planning Department, at a ceremony in Paris (France) on 3 June (see photo).
Stockholm was awarded for its 2030 City Plan, which includes developing hubs to connect urban areas to the city centre, making transport more frequent to reduce waiting times and creating a user-friendly network.
The INTERMODES award distinguishes European communities which are politically engaged to improve the mobility citizens through the connectivity of multiple transport modes – otherwise known as intermodality.
The main selection criteria for the INTERMODES prize are the intermodal dimension of the initiative, the community’s political will to improve mobility, the originality of the approach and the sustainability of the implementation.
Previous winners are:
- 2009 – Lorraine Region (France) and Luxembourg
- 2010 – The Canton of Geneva (Switzerland)
- 2011 – The Öresund Region (Sweden and Denmark)
- 2012 – The 2012 London Olympics Organizing Committee (United Kindgom)
- 2013 – Pontevedra (Spain)
- 2014 – Grand Lyon Metropolis (France) and Utrecht (Netherlands)
