Cubic to Speak on Intelligent Ticketing Technology at 2015 Australian Transport Summit

Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a business unit of Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB), today announced that Tom Walker, managing director of CTS-Australasia, will discuss new transportation technologies at the upcoming Australian Transport Summit held in Sydney, Australia on July 31. Jointly presented by the Australian Tourism & Transport Forum and UITP (International Association of Public Transport) Australia and New Zealand, the Australian Transport Summit is one of Australia’s premier industry gatherings to discuss and highlight innovations in the transport industry.

CTS will also be showcasing Cubic’s NextAgent, an innovative hybrid ticket office, callcenter and ticket vending machine. NextAgent allows passengers to communicate directly with a remote customer service agent through high-speed video links to purchase tickets.

“Complex journeys and individual requirements make some travelers feel more comfortable dealing with a knowledgeable ticketing agent rather than a ticket vending machine. At the same time, staffing personnel across an operator’s network outside of peak travel hours can be costly,” said Walker. “NextAgent enables operators to cost effectively balance these competing demands allowing customers to interact with ticketing staff in real time to support their needs.”

The keynote address, presented by Vernon Everitt, managing director of customer experience, marketing and communications at Transport for London (TfL), will focus on the success of London’s contactless payment system, which was jointly developed by Cubic. Contactless payment is proven to be a best practice within the transport industry, with more than 130 million journeys made since it launched in September 2014 on London Underground, tram, DLR, London Overground, buses and most National Rail services. The technology allows customers to pay for travel with their debit or credit card and on mobile devices with Apple Pay.

Tom Walker will be speaking at the following panel during the event:

  • “The Future of Ticketing: Trends in Fares and Technology”
Friday, July 31, 11:35 a.m. at the Westin Hotel, Sydney, Australia
