Thalys awarded contract for London Tube upgrade

Transport for London (TfL) has awarded global transportation systems provider Thalys a £760 million (€1.04 billion) contract to upgrade four of London’s metro lines.    

Thalys will deliver the vital modernisation of the signaling and train control systems for the Circle, District, and Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines – 40 per cent of the total network.

Passau shopping centre installs ‘smart’ parking technology

An innovative system for managing parking spaces has been installed in a shopping centre in the Bavarian town of Passau.

The wireless magnetic indoor and outdoor field sensors, designed by German traffic system manufacturer MSR-Traffic, count incoming and outgoing vehicles in both directions and can detect those going in the wrong direction.

The new technology provides a low-cost and effective alternative to inductive loops and camera-based systems traditionally installed to manage parking facilities.
