Google Map Maker will be enabled in Ukraine

mapmakerThe first phase of Map Maker’s reopening has begun, starting with six countries. Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, India, Philippines and Ukraine are now open for editing.

Regional Leads in every country will be able to moderate: Mappers in each country were selected as “Regional Leads” to moderate edits done by other mappers in their respective regions.  These are users who have demonstrated a clear interest in mapping their areas and will be helpful in moderating edits.

A few points about what can be expected with regards to moderation of edits:

  • While Regional Leads will moderate, edits will continue to be reviewed by Google’s automated moderation systems as well. A small fraction of edits will be moderated by Google operators.

  • Since edits will be increasingly reviewed by Regional Leads, they may take more time to go live. The Regional Leads may reach out editors through comments to help review edits. Editors are requested to collaborate with Regional Leads to get edits published.

  • Map Maker’s General Product Forum can be used for communication with the Regional Leads in the context of a specific edit and post request under country-specific “Review Edit Requests” categories.

Regional Leads are selected by Google based on the history and quality of their contributions to Google Maps and the Map Maker community. If you are interested in being considered for the program, apply using this form.
